About Textile Lifelong Learning

The Textile Lifelong Learning project is linked with the Regional Development plan for Yorkshire and Humber and is funded by the European Social Fund.

The project will contribute to the educational attainment of disaffected young people and/or support young employed and unemployed people, aged 15 –24 who lack appropriate qualifications, basic and key skills, including ICT skills. The project involves a partnership including CBWT, The Textile Centre of Excellence, Bradford College and Leeds Innovation (linked to Leeds University). The project will build upon previous work in which links have been developed between schools and business.

One way in which this is being achieved is through the development of this website which includes an information package on the textile industry in West Yorkshire (including employment and training and development opportunities in the sector, plus information on where the industry is located, guidance and advice on the different types of jobs in the sector). In addition the website has links to local colleges, local Universities and Ufl facilities. The website also has a learning facility built within it complete with opportunities for on-line assessment of skills and on-line help from experts and access to distance learning materials.

The ultimate aim of the website is to stimulate a demand for lifelong learning and vocational qualifications.

The Web Site - TL3

TL3 provides an interactive resource for students studying any aspect of textiles.

As well as textiles the site includes information about environmental issues, regional industry and a careers.

The site is in two sections a Student section and a Teachers section.

Students

The main part of TL3 is the student site, this is a fun, easy to use website which explores different areas of the textile industry.

The site includes:

  • Information and links on careers
  • Ask an expert - students can submit textile related queries to a panel of textile industustry experts for answers.
  • Links to other useful resources
  • Structered learning modules with quizes and tests.

The learning modules cover:

  • Fibres and Yarns
  • Fabric Construction
  • Technical Textiles
  • Environment

Each module is broken down into sections such as 'Weaving' or 'Knitting'. Each section is accompanied by high quality video and other supporting materials. At the end of each section is an interactive 'Quick Quiz'. At the end of the module is a more extensive interactive 'Test'.

The student section is available FREE to anybody via the web.

Teachers

To support students learning we have developed a Teaching Resources site. This provides information about the project and our funders.

The teachers site also includes high quality videos and other downloadable information to support and extend the student site.

To allow us to track usage of these resources we ask teachers to register. This is FREE and will provide you with password access to the resource pages.
