Advertising
Advertising is about making sure that people know what you have
to sell, how good it is, and where they can get it. This helps to
sell your products, which makes a profit, pays the wages, and keeps
the factory going.
Most clothing companies sell their clothes to shops. A few companies
sell through their own shops, but this is not the usual way.
When it comes to advertising the products, it may be the shop that
is selling them who does this; or the company and the shop may work
on it together.
Usually, advertising is done through an advertising agency. This
means that the agency does the work of creating advertisements for
magazines, newspapers, television or cinema and makes sure that the
adverts appear. Someone from the company (usually from sales and
marketing) works closely with the advertisers to make sure that they
are doing what the company wants and creating the right image.
A few clothing companies do their own advertising, but companies
usually have to be very large before they can afford their own advertising
department.
Whatever way the advertising is done, the company will need to have
an advertising plan and to carry out that plan without spending more
money that is available. This means keeping to a strict budget, just
like all the other activities that happen in the factory.
